2nd wind turbine up and running

Working great, but there appears to be some interdimentional phase shifting going on, see picture.

This only occurs while the turbine is at speed, it looks like most other 3 bladers while at rest, no orbiting 4th blade or bending blades, really.  :-)   Takes a very top of the line Walmart digital camera to capture this phenomenon. ;-) Anyway, this one's a ten foot diam. rotor laminate machine.  It's got the alternator I mention about 10 posts down now.   It starts turning in around a 5-7mph wind(guestimation) and hits lots of rpms(blades blur) in 10mph wind.  Sounds a lot like a helicopter rotor.  Seems smooth enough, but the thought of this thing running in more than a 10mph wind is a bit scary, can't get over how much power this thing displays in just a 10mph wind.  Btw, I bolted a $9.99 1000 lb steel cable winch onto one of the guy wire posts and use it to raise and lower the tower, takes about 10 mins. to do either and it's easy.  For a load I've got 4 250watt heat lamps, which were glowing often today.  I think the 10 foot rotor might be a little slow for the 100 volts I'd like to have it peak at, but we'll see what happens when the wind picks up.  Having lots of fun now that I can see something go round and round. :-)

Some pretty fancy pictures,,,

I really like the idea of the PVC blades, however have you thought about what the temperature limitations are?? From what I have read the material becomes pretty brittle when it gets cold,, In the winter it gets to -20C regularly here in Ontario.

Has anyone tried using a ABS plastic, I understand they have a better low temperature characterisitcs.

Good flying

Jeff
