Motor fields

HI Everyone,
I'm using old motors for my latest alternators and Brushless DC motors.
I was wondering if anyone has filled in the open slots on fields that were between the slots that the new wiring went through and what material they used to do it?
I guess I could just leave them open but I don't think it would be as effective.
