TDM thrust load

Ok, now that we are on the subject....

Just how much twisting and stuff can a TDM take.... say if i made blades like
this wire and tube blade; http://windstuffnow.com/main/one_hour_projects.htm , its light and strong. So in its self wouldnt put alot of bearing load.... its the gusts of wind that would be the problem..... wouldnt it??

That doesn't seem to be Time Division Multiplex? but the referred-to site was pretty. What is TDM thrust load?

Im refering to a Tape Drive Motor (like a large computer main frame) .... they are dc in and if U spin them... they out put a DC voltage/current.
Trying to move my solar pannels is fun.

You wouldn't have any problem with thrust loads on most PM motors as long as they have bearings and not bushings.  Most of the load on the shaft is highest when the machine is seeking the wind.  The gyro effect tries to hold the blades in one position and the tail wants to seek the wind thus loading the bearings during rotation.  Most motors with a 5/8" shaft or larger ( depending on the blade diameter and how its attatched ) can hold the forces.

The one hour blades you refered to work quite well.  I think they would work better if the ribs were made as an airfoil as opposed to how I originally built them using the tube as the leading edge.  But for a quick and simple blade they work great.
