I just finished up the tachymeter kit that I acquired from Otherpower.com. It performs very nicely and it was a top quality kit with a very nice printed circuit board and all the necessary goodies.
You can build it to use alkaline or recharables, I of course chose the environmentally resonsible rechargables. And it also has a jack for a transformer if that's your preference. I replaced the momentary on spst switch with a toggle so I don't have to hold the button down. Nice clear LED display and it can read up to 100,000 rpms. Impressive and at a reasonable price too!
You supply your own enclosure, but I borrowed an idea that I saw on the other board at some point. The finished board and battery fits nicely in a deoderant can. A little black tape to fancy it up and it turned out attractive even.
I'm slowly putting together a test protocol to make more sophisticated evaluations about coil size, shape, thickness, spacing, etc. Even dragged out my old Phillips 25mhz o'scope. Just wish I had more hours in the day for all this fun experimentation.
You'd think I work for them, but really I'm just a loyal customer.
Have a lovely day!
