interference disc alternator

Has anyone experimented with the concept of interference disc alternator, where the magnets and coils are mounted either side of a toothed steel disk, which rotates.

Bob the "G" man Gayle lit up the board some time ago with something very similiar to this. Electrodyne alternators (http://www.electrodyne.com/about.html) use this technology and reportedly put out some great output for their size. The main issue I could see with a DIY project along these lines is cogging. I think the Electrodyne alternators use an odd ratio of poles to [interference] rotor coggs to offset the cogging effect.

There's always another way to do it, or so it seems. It looks like the inteferance disk "turns on/off" the magnetism as seen from the coil, like a magnetic window opening and closing. Intriguing.
