Design plans wanted

Hi
I'm after plans for shaping blades for a three blade propeller for a wind generator. The more detailed the plans the better. I want to carve the blades out of bolsa wood and then glass over them. I want a propeller diameter of approx 1.5 meters. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you going to carve all three blades?? Another way to do it would be to carve just one really nice one. If you want to get them all uniform shape, you should probably try making a mold of the one you carved and putting some sort of expanding foam inside, like the stuff that comes in a can at home depot. This foam is the same weight if not lighter and a lot stronger than balsa. Just make sure you grease the inside of the mold. When the mold is opened you have your foam blade which you then glass over. You might have better luck with this method. This is just another way to do it. Just make sure you know how your going to mount them (insert your mounting flange/pipe inside the blade before you inject the foam so it locks it in to the blade itself). Just my 2 cents. :) RoyR

Read the artical on my web page under trubine building, shows you how to build a blade and calculate it. http://www.internetfred.com/

As a recent victim of Glass work could I suggest a NO! balsa is a fantastic to make blades out of, I tried to make a mould of my balsa blade with GRP and it all got horribly messy and dificult. I eventually had a pair of molds, but they were dificult to fill correctly and when I joined the pair it all became one mass of sticky-never-be-parted muck. I went back to pine and it's a joy to work with. With a piece of heavy grade emmery papers on my drill's sanding pad it's a dream to work with. All my blades are accurate pitched correctly and look stunning if I do say so myself. Just my advice Good luck let us know how you get on. M

Try http://www.itdg.org - They have a very well documented article on blade moulds to make castings. Your may skip the casting side and go directly to blade carving. This is possibly what you are looking for.
