motor powered bikes

Hi Gang,
While I was looking for lawn mower parts I ran across this site. I found this small gas engine. The Honda GX31 is about 7.5 lbs and 1.5 HP it goes for about $200. dollars. Robin (Subaru) also make one. The thing I like is they are very quiet and 4 cycle so no oil mixture.
I may try to build a new bike with it. (I only have about 4 or 5 now so I think one more is needed!) Actually I'd like to build a hybrid car with one of these to help extend the mileage.
Anyone done this?

I didn't know Robin/Subaru has a small 4-cycle engine.  I was only familiar with Honda and Ryobi.

For you hybrid car, I might suggest one of the Yanmar Diesels or clone of that engine.  They are available in 4 Hp and up versions.  Diesel is a LOT more efficient than gas in converting hydro-carbons into energy.  In a car, there is not a great penality in a little more weight.  If it is used for a distance, diesel will make more power per pound when the weight of the fuel is taken into account. And one can run almost any type of oil in a diesel.

There's a really great little tranny that these guys have made.   They put it on a bike for steep hills.   See  http://www.utterpower.com/spanski.htm

Very clever transmission but at 87 to 1 ratio their bike must run about 10 mph.
I'll check out the Yanmar's. I like the idea of multiple fuels.
