renewable energy resource site launched

For those of you who frequent the IRC channel this is probably not a surprise, but behind the scenes we have spent the last few weeks hacking together a renewable energy resource website at www.reresource.org.

The site was born out of a need to nail some things down a little more permanently and with the blessing of the Dans and some hard work from several other board members we're happy to announce that we think it is now ready for some more serious testing and maybe even some use.

Plenty of the site needs fleshing out, and because of the way things are set up that is a 'two-way-street', you can both go there for information or you can edit/amend portions of the site. Anything that you contribute you automatically 'own', unless you make your contributions anonymous.

The site features a very simple user interface and a built in gallery if your article needs images.

Feel free to play around with the site, and let us know what you think of it, any feedback is welcome, negative as well as positive !

Because www.reresource.org is a 'work in progress' you can expect weird effects whenever we update the site, these should not last longer than a few minutes at most.

Enjoy it !

Back in 92 i had a BBS (like a local website).

It had nothing to do with A.E., but with martial arts.

I made contact with some 10 other sites around Canada and 'networked' our message bases.

So basically, about 10 site shared something called "BudoNet".

My point is that if we (those not toooo interested in money) can band together, it can only help. We dont have to share message bases, but if shared a search function or something, that would improve user results by ... gawd... 600%? or mayber higher?!

Im all for fame, money and power; but we have things to do first. ;)

Hope to hear from you guys on this. Everyone.

EXCELENT!! Nice work! I was wondering when it was going to happen. We have so much information and we where talking about it a long long time ago, but this was I am sure a major project. I'll be spending some serious time in their!!

THANKS GUYS!!!

Comments: colors make things hard to read, standard black/white is best to use. 20% of population is color blind. This means that 20% will have an extremely hard time to read the text in the color. The light blue/purple does not work well (standard typical unix format). Black/white throughout. Text needs to be more standardized 12point throughout. Very difficult to read left hand menu listings. Too small.

Other notable comments:
The menu system on the right hand side is in disarray. The following is a guide to fixing it to make it easier to navigate. I tend to group things of equal sections and subsections. Something like this...things that go together are in specific areas separated by a simple space.

P.S. I'll add the link to my web site in the alt links. Nice job!

Hey Fred,

Thanks for the input, we'll put the b/w change in there asap, never thought of that ! (I thought it was pretty minimal as it was :)

Regarding the other change, the menu is alphabetical, yours is absolutely better, but for technical reasons quite hard to do right now. I'll definitely see if I can make that work though (the whole site is 'auto' generated from a database).

thanks again,

  Jacques.

fred;

We disabled the web based IRC because it was drawing too many bad players. If you use Mozilla [which has an irc client included] or Mirc or some other client the address for IRC is:

Server: otherpower.serveirc.com
Port  6667
Channel: #otherpower
