Same as smartdrive?

I found a good Maytag Neptune motor in the scrap pile at the appliance dealer the other day. I think it is a 3 phase motor and I know it is DC. Possibly very similar to the F/P smartdrive motor but I don't know enough about them to be sure. So $20 shipped in the lower 48 is my price. If you're interested, let me know and I'll take pictures or answer questions.

Well someday my next door neighbor might tell me the same thing...so post the pictures anyway.
Waiting for the day those motors become about as plentiful as car heater blower motors......

Hello Farmer,  I have several of the F&P units, complete.
Could you possibly take several shots of your captive and post them ,please?
Would love to compare the 2 units to see if there is any difference or it's just a copy ,or sold by F&P to maytag ???

Thanks
Bruce

Hi Farmer.

Have you opened this one up yet? Does it have magnets? I thought I saw a motor like this at the metal scrap yard but it had no magnets.

In the wind I get 380 watts out of the GE ECM and 450 watts out of the F&P. Both at 30 MPH and plastic blades.

An AC switched reluctance motor does not have permanent magnets and is not suitable as a generator, though it might be a good candidate for a motor conversion by adding magnets.

As a motor, the windings act as electromagnets that 'pull' the rotor around by virtue of attaction to the iron rotor laminates.  By switching the windings on and off in the correct order and rate, they can be made a simple/cheap variable speed motor (though I bet they're not all that cheap when you need to replace the burned-out one in your washing machine).

Ahhhh, thanks for the information. Not enough F/P washers here to find those motors as scrap. So I guess I've got a pretty useless thing here unless someone feels like doing some major modifications.
