SLIP RINGS

Where can I buy electric slip rings?

I want to make genny using an Ametek motor and some commercially made blades.  I would like to put this on a standard 1-1/2" black iron pipe as a "tower."  I know some of you say I can use ordinary welding wire and forget about using slip rings but if I do want to go this route, where can I get some reasonably priced?

hell johnjach.

you could try your local motor rewind shop. often they salvage slip-ring assemblys from wound rotor motors, or you could try a small portable generator shop for new or salvaged slip rings.

good luck-zubbly

I wouldnt bother with the slip rings, you well lose a sigificant amount of power through them and when you are only dealing with a small amount of power to be had from a maeteck motor you cant afford to lose any. Cable twist is not a issue, its just a myth.

If its like most ametek motors Ive seen, you're probably looking at a machine with about a 4' diameter prop, and maximum output of around 100 watts (a bit more on occasion) - so welding cable would be overkill.  You would probably do fine with a 10 or 12 gage extension cord down the tower.
