Need  some advise on deep well solar pump

Hi guys

I need to change my deep well pump, right now my pump is 220v 1/2hp set to 75psi and I need to change to solar. I saw on the net some solar pump for $895usd but I need some advise, which one should I buy, I need to change the pump and a few things before I go off grid.
Any advise?

Thanks
Frank

Hi Frank, there are several ways to go here. The easiest thing I can think of is to pump with your existing pump with a generator into a cistern for storage. Then you can use a low voltage pump for as needed water. If you are going to top off batteries daily, this is the way I would go.

Otherwise,depending on static level of your well ( how low below ground level the water is if not pumped for several hours), recharge rate of well ( how fast the water level comes back to the static level), and your current wire size, you could go with an inverter and 110 volt pump. Understand that downsizing to 110 volts means doubling the wire resistance. If the pump installer had a little foresight ( thinking you might upgrade to a 3/4 or 1 hp pump) and has a decent gauge wire to your existing pump, possibly you could use a 110 volt 1/2 hp deep well pump ( otherwise means shortening pipe and pump)
My best advise is to give a well driller a call ( or a pump installer) and explain what you are planning and ask them your options are.  Hope that possibly some of this helps  Gary D.

Heh Frank,   Have no idea of your requirements but check out www.capsolar.com   &   www.surflo.com  These guys all have solar stuff and will have a better price than $900 USD.
Good Luck

Try this (http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/aims_3000_240V.html). I have two, one powers my 3/4 hp well pump and another powers the 2 1/2 hp motors in my septic system. My well pump can draw over 70 amps @ 12v, and I don't know how much 12vdc power you have available, but this is an option.

Great link  Demetri- first inverter exclusevly for 220 that I've seen! Was thinking the only thing to do was stack 2 110's. Sure beats the holding tank option.   Gary D.

Demetri;

On that inverter, does it have some method of remote switching to power it up only as needed?

Cheers.

Hi Tom, didn't see that optoin on that model, but it only pulls  .6 amps no load. thinking here is that's @ 12 volts but could be wrong. Sorry I answered for Demetri, but saw remotes for a bunch of there other inverters. Possibly interchangeable?  Have a Good day Gary D

TomW: I don't think so, each inverter seems to draw about half an amp all the time.
