What could be?

Hello! A neighbor of mine says his 1984 yamaha virgro cycle has a mysterious element that connects the fuse box to the other parts. He has the fuses taped and glued together. He says there is not real wire[copper etc]in the wires, but that it has some kind of cloth looking substance. He wont let no one look at it because the engine has to be taken apart to put a new wire harness on.He comutes between Fort Worth and Little Rock twice a day with a bag of hog feed under each arm. I am concerned about him. Can someone tell me what this mystery elec-conductor might be.

Well, It's pretty hard to say... Without a picture, but I'd guess its really braided wire.  It looks kinda like cloth, but it's really a nice weave of fine copper strands.

That's my best guess without seeing it..

Chris

They use stuff that looks like carbonized black string in plug cables, also what looks like flat black paint in printed circuits, then again the buttons on your remote have contact surfaces that look like black rubber???

????????

Yes I might worry about him a bit too.

I know Forthworth is more of a cattle town, but surley someones sells hog feed too :)
.
nothing to lose

Spelin and tpying are my strong points, not electronics.
