12vdc or 24vdc

  Hello!
Would a 24vdc inverter get longer usage from a bank of 300AH batteries. Than a 12vdc inverter? All things being equal of course. The wiring [series-paralell]are taken into consideration. The only change being the input voltage to the inverter.Could this be, and what would be the cut-off voltage to the inverter 23vdc.
The link below has a calculator that says this is so.Maybe I could build me a Wind-Jenny powered with a B&S and come out ahead.  Please Advise.

Yes, I think a 24v inverter will be more efficient because it doesn't have to step up the voltage as far...

Hi, I believe that if you have the same Amp Hours in a 24 volt bank as in a 12 volt bank, the amount of energy stored in the battery bank would be double.  If, as I suspect you meant by taking into account series and parallel, however, your battery banks stored the same amount of energy, i.e. you had a 300 Amp Hour bank at 12V and a 150 Amp Hour bank at 24V, and if the inverters had the same efficiency, then the 24 volt inverter would be able to deliver slightly energy especially if the loads are heavy as the percentage of energy lost in the wires, equal to the square of the current multiplied by the resistance, would be smaller because to deliver the same amount of power, the current would be half of the current necessary in a 12 volt system. As for the cutoff voltage, Ive seen cheap squarewave stock inverters that cut off at 20.4 volts.  This seems low to me, depending on what type of batteries and how many cycles you want to get out of them you would probably want a higher cutoff voltage.   One of the many battery experts on here could probably answer that question better than I.  Hope this helps some.

Just Having fun,

yes it would be beter at 24v then 12v and last longer cause you not nedding a smuch current from the power source.

ie

a 24ah battrie puts out 1 amp for 24 hours but not 24 amps for 1 hour
