Blade carving shortcut

8 copy gang-router

I've been employed for the last six+ years running an 8 spindle carving duplicator(manually controlled).  I wonder if carving some windmill blades would be worth pursuing.
Even if they need a bit of clean-up work, the time savings should be considerable.

The dimensions of the machine limit the blank ends to a diagonal of just under 10in.--length is limited by the reach of my arms.  By flipping end-for-end at the halfdone point 5ft. blades would be easily possible--probably this can be extended by adding a handle to the machine.
I don't want to suck the fun out of this by turning it into business, I'm just inspired by some of the really top-notch props some of you have posted :)
I've already run it past my boss, and he's open to the idea of some machine time outside of work.
  I'm located in Loveland CO.
Regards,
Mike

Geez Mike - were practically neighbors!  It'd be fun to bring a blade by some time and see how that works.  As you probably know... were just a bit west of Loveland.

Mike,

I did a double take when I saw your post. It's my name! Send me an e-mail at acctggirl@cox.net. I'd like to know if your last name is the same as mine and if so, about your roots in the old country.

Thanks,

MikeR

Hey DanB,
Actually, we've met shortly a couple of times through Dave R.  He lives just down the street from my house now.
I'd enjoy showing you around the shop I work in, and having a blade to check out at the same time would be a very good idea.
What we do there is all decorative, so carving these will be even more gratifying.
If you want to e-mail me I'll get back to you.geoffrey2@earthlink.net.
  Later,
Mike

I think we've met, Mike -- you are a luthier, right?
I came in and got a head for my 5-string fretless banjo if I remember right....

DanF
We have met once.  I had the pleasure of sitting in one night at your place jammin, but I'm no luthier--  or much of a musician, other than harmonica and hand drums.
I do have a cello project I need to finish, based on a huge elkskin handdrum for the body.  This will be the first stringed instrument I've ever built.  As soon as I get the guts to cut into the drum I'll be over the hump.
Good talkin to ya!

This here's the machine I mentioned.  My first attempt to hang a photo, so forgive me if I've botched it.
The pattern can be seen in the center--it has a stylus that follows it/controlls how deep the bits can cut.
The cutters are 3/4in., four cut clockwise, the rest counter-clock.
Regards,
 Mike
