Using body filler to hold magnets

Anyone tried it?

I was thinking of using fiber glass reinforced body filler instead of epoxy to hold my mags in place. I'd run a thin strap over the magnets and then cover everything with filler.

  Rob,
I've used fiberglass resin with a cloth over coat with good success.  Never tried the bondo.  There is alot of attraction to the steel when the magnets are in close proximity.

When I was building the modified GM alternators I started with epoxy but had a couple mishaps with magnets comming off and went with the fiberglass resin with the cloth wrapping.  Never had any come off after that.  Its messy but it works.

I have.  I would not recommend it because it's REAL hard to get the bondo "level" without sanding or something.  To minimize air gap, you don't want a lot of bumps and stuff sticking up above the face of the magnets.  I've also used fiberglass resin.  The resin is much easier because it is more liquid, so you just pour it in, it levels itself.

Dave,
I machine it after setting to the exact dimensions I need.

Ed,
I'll look into your method.
