Will gray water hurt plants ?

Can I use gray water to irrigate my yard ?

I've been thinking about taking all the gray water... water from sinks, shower, cloths washer, dishwasher, etc and use it to irrigate my yard. So only the sewage from the toilet would go in the septic tank.

Will gray water hurt plants, etc? Is it OK to irrigate with?

If it will hurt plants, is there a system I can run it through to clean it up and make it useful?

thanks for any comments.

Will

Will, My dad did this for 45 years, till he hooked up to the city sewer in order to sell the house.  The kitchen sink drained around a lemon tree and let me tell you he had to prop up the branches with 2x4's to keep them from braking from the weight of all the lemons. Also he always had chickens and they would always be scratching in the ditch to get the bits of food.  And there were Many earthworms that were in the area also. I'd say that was the best spot of earth on the property.
I just posted (in the last 2 or 3 days) about a solar 'garden shower' I put together. It drains into a hole next to my pomaganite bush for the last 6 years and the plant is doing great, and no, the fruit doesn't taste soapy. I wash my hair out there a few times a years too.  Let it Flow!

Our kitchen-sink and shower water runs out a black-poly tube into a 6" trench 6' long.  The area around that trench is BOUNTIFUL with green growth.  There are rosebushes a few feet downslope from the trench, and are some of the healthiest, nicest-smelling roses I've ever seen.  We don't run anything down the drain besides normal dish and handsoap...and some orange gojo after wrenching something... <grin>
