Let's keep it nice
Demetri's been here since near the start - lots of good postings and comments in my opinion. (and we all get a be grumpy from time to time)
The bottom line as I see it...
We've got about 1500 registered users now - it's a lot of folks. New postings sit on the front page... maybe for a couple days then they're gone. (Demetri.. this includes your advice for "newbies"! - a few will see it, but then it's gone)
Every discussion board I visit gets the same questions posted by "newbies" frequently. On the Volvo board... there's hundreds of postings talking about the same symptoms for which all the answers say... "airmass meter" - (I posted one myself a few weeks ago even though a search pretty much answered my question... every now and then if you re-post an old problem someone "new" will offer some "new insights on an old problem) and on the model A board there're hundreds of postings about the same topics..
(think about that... on a model A Ford, such a simple thing, there just isn't really enough to talk about to keep a board going for long without becoming a bit redundant! so the same problems and answers get posted over and over again - there is rarely anything really new - yet that particular board gets at least 100 postings and comments per day. Folks go there to share information - meet freinds, be part of a community)
On a discussion board - while it is nice when folks do a bit of homework first, people are signing up and posting partly to get information, but partly they simply want to "join a community" - which is really exactly what this is. So I always appreciate when folks ask a question, and if it seems redundant sometimes the best thing to do is either ignore it, or.. if want to spend the time, offer a unique and detailed comment, or.. if you want to spend a bit less time, just post a few URL's that'll offer some help.
I'm happy to see most new members, and I realize fully that we'll never put an end to seemingly "very simple" or "redundant" questions - it is the nature of a "discussion board".
