How much sun

  Hello. I built several alts, but there dont be no wind.I am thinking solar might be better in my locale.There is limited space where I am at,and my shack is under some large shade trees.Could someone guess-ta-mate or know, do you need full sun shining on the panels, or does the light from the sun do the trick.If there is only light shinning what can I expect from them,percentage wise. Please Advise....

frank;

Well, unless you have an acre of panels don't expect much without direct sun for a substantial part of every day. I have 300 watts of panels that actually put out a steady 18 amps in full sun. In the shade or with overcast skies its maybe 1 or 2 amps at best. Sticking them up on poles can help get more direct sun and a tracker is well worth the effort also.

Cheers.

 Thanks  Thats what I was suspecting.Well let me see now: No Sun--No wind sooooo!
 Maybe I can steal a back-hoe & 16 miles of 00 copper cable, and hook up to the grid some where else.No one will find out I got an honest face.

You might have wind you may have to go quite high to get it. Got any hydro, that's the best?

   Yes,we aint got no hydro,the river just sets there like its asleep.Cant build a tower, restrictions dont you see.Guess its the B&S alt or nothing.But it cost $1.27 to run the engine 4 hrs.And it cost .25 to buy from the same grid,that was last week.At this rate Ill go broke,playing only two games of FreeCell,using battery power.Where theres a will theres a way.   Frankenbuger

  Frankenberger! Believe it or not You can shut off the computer and play free cell with a regular deck of cards You can have a couple of VAWT's double helix... pump water...hydro power ...electricity when needed lift a large weight released thru a generator, pedal power to augment the VAWT's get an old diesel truck and run it on biofuel burn old crankcase oil smokelessly and heat water for running a hot air engine as in
http://www.rotarystirlingengines.com/sexbaloon.htmon a larger scale than this like 15 gallon drums and innertubes instead of ballons!
   If you have winters where you live you can build an ice house make ice blocks in the winter and never need a refrigerator again!
   Build wind gennys and sell them to people that do have wind. The possibilities are endless...just use your imagination!

If it's do or die, maybe have to chop down the tree and let the sun in?  I suppose the wind genny would have to be higher than the trees to also get any breeze.
