Attach Prop to TDM Shaft with a 5/8" Shaft Adapter...

I have seen many looking for a simple solution to mount a prop directly to the TDM...

Tip:

I have seem many postings, people asking...How do I attach a Tape Drive Motor shaft to a Prop?  Most Ametek motors have a 5/8" shaft.  Look on the Internet for a 5/8" Shaft Adapter or goto Lee Valley and order their Adapter... http://www.leevalley.com/ wood/page.asp?SID=&ccurrency=1&page=41743&category=1,43072,4593 9 It slips onto the shaft and gives you a 1/2" threaded end with lock washers and nut.  Two set screws apply pressure to the shaft to keep everything in place.  Then just attach your props to the 1/2" thread and your set.

Now how do you attach the motor to a frame.  Oh sure you could build something, but save your self some time.  Goto Lee Valley and get their Motor Mount... http://www.leevalley.com/ wood/page.asp?SID=&ccurrency=1&page=30047&category=1,240,41067 This item allows you to mount the motor to a piece of plywood.

Hope this helps.

Dont pay 8 bucks for an arbor shaft when Tomw just posted the other day about using the 1.98 ones from Harbor freight tools.

plus, using 4 inch U bolts from any auto supply store and a pipe flange from Home Depot as a motor mount has been discussed here quite a bit previously. Built several using this method.

Just an observation ...
Actually the total cost is about the same.
Habor Freight charges a handling charge of over 5 bucks, which seems a bit unreasonable to me. I got mine from Lee Valley instead.
