laminates one more time

one last question

ok, so if I were to make a gen with a slotted steel stator, I need to know one more thing I guess.  Besides the winding of the laminates to be around the same length of the magnets in order to harness as much flux as possible, what do you all recomend as far as a thickness for the laminates?  would a 1/4 inch suffice?  If slots are to be cut into the laminate, is it ok to have just a thin amount of laminate in the slotted area where the coils will go?

The cross-section of the iron laminations "under" the slots should be at least as large as the "teeth" between the slots, approximately 1/4" to 3/8", depending on the desired power output.

Refer to the green areas in the example below.

Hi Ed,

I respectfully disagree. If the teeth are run at a high flux density the iron supporting them would need to be one and a half times as thick as the teeth to  carry all of the flux at the same density. In my experience this section is normally much thicker because of mechanical considerations. Great drawings as usual BTW.

Hi Victor,

Now that you've mentioned it, I agree that does make engineering sense.
