Do the magnet add

Hello.   I am a little confused, as is normal for me.I dont know which magnets to buy.In the past I got the n38 neos 1" x 1/2" x 1/8" and stacked them as needed to fit.It looks like the thickness should be 3/8",to fit the genny, I am working on now.The question is do the magnets add their strenth to each other, when stacked,or would it be better to buy the thicker magnets to begin with.
                   Please Advise.               Frankenbuger

Magnets in series do not add equaly, 1 magnet1/8"=100%  2 magnets total 1/4"=130% 3 magnets total 3/8"=160%.  Some post this week had a UK magnet site with figures on adding additional magnets Im pretty sure 30% each additional magnet adds. Better to use 1 magnet 1/4" thick than 3 @1/8"
  Best of luck

In my tests stacking two magnets gave only ~20% increase in performance. I got better results by placing two magnets adjacent so that the magnet area is increased. This gave ~40% increase.

Note! These results are with hdd-magnets (2 pole in one magnet). Results can be very different with other kind of magnets.
