Run 240v pump from 120v generator?
I purchased an 1850 watt generator with 120 volt outlets for use during power outages. I would like to be able to run my well pump (240v) as well. Is this possible. What would I need to do this?

The generator has to be able to output 230 VAC first. You can measure this with a volt meter if you have one. Most commercial generators can output single phase 230VAC and just center tap that for two 115VAC outlets but for the most part, the 230 is available. It's just how you pick it up with the outlets...

Many pumps are 110/220 optional. If you have a jet pump, upgrading to a heavier wire to handle the extra amps of 110 would be easy if you follow the manufacturer wiring diagram for 110. However even if this is the case, if you will be running anything else when the pump trips on, you'll probably pop the generators breakers ( motor surge current)depending on the hp of the pump. Post note to this, if checking or changing any wiring, please don't believe the breaker panel! Check with a voltmeter first. I've run across many circuits changed without the note on the breaker panel changed. be safe. Gary D.

1850 watts is probably not enough for a 240v motor even if you can re-connect it for 120v. Check the full load amps at 240v. Double that for 120v. 1850 watts is only 15 amps. And don't forget that you need even more to start it....
