I love my new bandsaw...

I got my workshop started, and got my bandsaw together.  I guess I should back up and say prior to buying the bandsaw I ruined about thirty feet or so of wood trying to build my blades.  Part of it is learning curve seeing how this was my first time trying to build blades (and the fact I have not done much work with wood period),  however most of it was not having the corect tools...

Anyway, I bought the band saw and made all the major cuts on one blade in no time flat, then used an angle grinder to make everything just right.  the blade came out perfect.  I HIGHLY suggest anyone out there that does not have a band saw to spend the money for one... it is awesome.

Just wanted to also thank all of you in your help on sharing the knowledge you posess to help others... it has been a great help to me.

Good Deal. Glad to hear you are happinin. This is what I did and might help some o thers. I just got a couple scrap 2 by 4s  a couple feet long and carved on them and made them look like blades. Seemed like I spent hours online trying to figure things out and Finally said time to try it. A couple scrap boards and then it was off to find some decent wood. Thats the hard part. Good Luck. JB

Yeah Lucky you! I could never convince 'The Boss' to let me get one so I'm resigned to making my own ...got the blade, pulleys, motor everything I need except the time.....................then next make a duplicator with a router...just 2 dimensional  and make depth cuts at about 15 or 20 stations each individual blade, probably crossed your mind also?
Well back to the starter......then the Rolacolasolor engine...
Have Fun with your new toy!

Hi Devon,

I'd have to fully agree about the bandsaw ...
I got one about a year ago and it is, by far, the most useful addition to my little shop. I haven't tried to make a rotor with it yet but I'm sure it would easily do the trick. I've made things on the bandsaw in a few minutes, that would otherwise take me hours to shape any other way. I got my saw from Grizzly Industrial, it's a model G0555 (14") and it only costs $375 plus shipping. It is very well made and easily compares to those made by Jet, Delta etc. which cost nearly $200-$300 more.

Just out of curousity, did you have a template for the correct shape(s), where would I go about finding the correct shape for a rotor that would start in fairly low windspeed?

Dave
