welding braided wire

How can I weld the braided wire from a brush

on a lawn mower PM starter motor back onto the
terminal? The one braided wire from the other brush to the terminal bolt is still intact but the short wire from the other brush isn't. Can I hook the terminal bolt to + on the battery and a carbon rod presses firmly against the wire and the terminal bolt like a spot welder, using the starter relay to put the juice to it?...or is the current supposet to go in the opposite direction for spot welding? Seems like someone on the board fastens coil wire junctions something like this?

Have you thought about using high-temp brazing?

Probably what I'll end up doing as soon as I find where I put the brazing rod ...lot of oil but can probably get that off with the carb cleaner...

I read somewhere (maybe a link from here?) a recommendation on how to spot weld tabs on small batteries when building your own battery packs out of individual cells.

Take a Weller soldering gun http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/photos2/045050.jpg remove the tip and install a couple of (copper?) electrodes in the terminals such that their tips come close together but are not touching.  Press the tips against the pieces to be spot welded and give the trigger a pull for a second or two.

Might work here too.

The Weller gun thing nice to know for future reference. On closer inspection I discovered that the wire isn't spot welded onto the head of the bolt after all, instead the two braided wires were inserted into a small piece of brass tubing crimped and then spotwelded onto the head of the bolt, so it seems likely that I can open it up and put a fresh new end of the braided wires and recrimp it.

              Thanks for the help guys.
