Fun new webpage

I need some help though!

Seems like every few days there is a new wind turbine that pops up here.  I think it'd be fun to create a "gallery" of completed (or near completed), homebrew wind turbines.  If anyone's willing to post a reply to this, along with a picture of a homebrew machine or two (or more) and a bit of detail about it, I'd like to make a big webpage that features them - and I can include names and links...and information about it or not - that'd be up to you, even just a picture would be fun. So if you have a picture of a machine you, or someone you know built and don't mind my putting it on a webpage on otherpower.com - post it down below in a reply!  Could be a fun collection of machines.

You can post my little downwind turbine... 400 watts in a 35 mph wind using ceramic magnets... 42" 6 blade prop   That "was" a fun little turbine.  I took it down this week to be re-used in another project. Have Fun Windstuff Ed Have Fun! Windstuff Ed

just another ceramic powered alt... lights up 4 headlights with ease..using a electric drill.. but when i tried it with my prop it needed a strong wind just to light up one headlight..so i added a second prop[4 blades] somewhat better output but nothing that equaled the output using the electric drill.. so now i see why neo's are used...more power output at a slow speed !!!!!!!!!!! the alt was made from a old MAYTAG motor[4 main coils 4 start up coils] 1/3 hp---think it was made in the 40s... this little alt works fine with ceramic mags--its a  old singer 1/4 hp motor--6 pole. all coils in siries--blows out a 6-8 volt taillight just turning by hand.. lights up a 12v headlight but not as bright as the old maytag alt.. works better at a slow rpm--than the maytag--but lower amps.. puts out more power at a lower rpm due to the six coils instead of only four coils.. but less amps than the maytag--maytag has bigger coils-larger wire size... old maytag alt with extra blade... my old 1916 motor--runs all day on that tank of gas. should work great with one of my motor to alt conversions.. WILD IN ALASKA [ Parent ]

hello ED..   whats the spec's on that motor ??   does that six blade setup turn faster than a single blade prop or just more tork.. WILD IN ALASKA [ Parent ]

Hello Wild in Alaska,     Its not a motor, its a scratch built alternator.   You can see the building of it at http://www.windstuffnow.com/main/test_page.htm .  Quite basic with the exception of all the electronics.  It did a mighty fine job for 3 years and still works great!  I took it down to rebuild it into another project.  The blades were designed to run at around a TSR of 4 and yes the 6 blades give it a bit more torque at start up.   Probably makes it a bit more inefficient in higher winds though. Thats pretty much it for the basics.  You do need to make sure the pole is perfectly level and the distance the blades are away from the pole provides the blades with enough energy to rotate the unit when its not running.  I had to add a bearing to get it to move a little quicker to start in low winds.  Other than that its pretty straight forward. This is my best genny so far,made from a ceiling fan.It does 60 open volt or 13.7 hooked to battery bank.Not many amps yet,Im still working on a better one.                              Franknbuger

Nice to see them all in one place :) 6 blade 2.0 meters and built on a converted 16 pole asynchron motor. Output is some 1000watts 3 phase and i used it for heat in a series resonant circuit with capacitors and light bulbs. 3 Blade 1.7 meters build on a servo motor i did get 2 for free. The "generator" is a bit to small, but for free its ok :) Output is some 350 watts and i used it for chargin 24 volt batteries. Putte from Sweden :) [ Parent ]

they do put out some volts --but no amps--great for L.E.D.s--try some jumbo L.E.D.s- and put on a light show--mine lights up a whole string of L.E.D.s at the slightest touch--just jiggle the darn thing and it lights up--hey that works for me to.... WILD IN ALASKA [ Parent ]

They all look great. Here's mine...8' prop-6 coils/12awg@150 turns-8 neos per rotor-dual rotor.

I've seen it go over 60 amps @16vdc while furling in 25 to 28 mph wind speeds. [ Parent ]

Hi All this is my first project what you think?? Its a 3 phase 9 coils 140 turns of 24 awg wire 12 neo`s.It stands about 5 ft tall about 20" wide made out of plywood and guttering for the blades.

Hi Its put out nearly an Amp at the minute its only been up and running about a 4 days and i have not had any good winds at the mo!!.

It is WK-5 from Lithuania. We are using rewounded car alternator. 160 V AC 2,6 A (one phase), 3 phase connected in star. Prop 3.55 m dia. Gear ratio 1:6. Virgis and WIND KIDS

I dont have any pictures of mine yet as it's not built, but I sure could send a ton of pictures on blades I have ruined so far !:) devon
