Diode or Bridge Rectifer with Ametek DC Motor?

Diode or Rectifier?

I am just about to put up a Ametek motor.

Can I use a Bridge Rectifier to stop the battery from running the motor?  And if so, does it need to be heat sinked?

Does anyone have a schematic or an actual picture of there diode or rectifier setup?

Thanks!

Rob

eformx,

I use a single blocking diode, and on such there should be a band marking one end. This goes toward the battery positive. I would not worry too much about heat buildup, but use a robust diode rated much higher than the genny can produce.

Do you just solder it inline? Or do you attach some soldered leads to the diode and splice inline with some connectors and then cover it with heat shrink tubing?

Just wondering what you or others have done.

Thanks,

Rob

Just solder it inline. The directin of the line on the diodes should point away from you.

Wait a min, you don't need diodes if it's a DC motor!! Connect a meter and put on DC, if i am right, direction of shaft motion will show + or - voltages!
Good Luck!

using a dc motor as a genny you need a single blocking diod on the + side or the motor will draw power from the battery and do what motors do.

if you do not use a blocking diod then you can congratulate yourself couse you just built an electic fan on a stick.

and to answer eformx's question yesyou can use a bridge rectafyer to keep the motor from motoring but it is not the best choice becouse you will have a higher voltege drop across the bridge rectafyer than you will across a single diod.

look here for info on how to hook up the diod.
