tork blade up and flying

its a keeper

for a simple blade i was surprized at its output--it maxed out my little 1/4 hp
motor to alt. conversion--acted like it wasnt even there' even when i loaded up the alt..next i will install my 3/4 hp motor to alt conversion.should crank right up..
the gear ratio is about 3 to 1..handles good in a light breeze or strong wind..
dosent seem to really over speed in a high wind--but starts easy in a light one..
the prop stands about six feet high--somewhat over kill for my little 1/4hp. alt.
should match up with the higher output 3/4 hp. alt.--it has ceramics and neos for
more amps and volts--well thats another story..later.  ;]

I hope you don't drive that way!!! :-)

Congratulations on your succesful turbine. May the wind blow onto your blades long and strong.

Well I am absolulty surprised that those blades worked!! Congradulations!
So whats up with the mix of neos and ceramics??  Wana hear more on that one.. surprise me again!

hello ifred

its just my old 3/4hp maytag motor --i put neo mags on top of the ceramics to close the airgap--i only made this blade as a test-because i geared up my alt. and needed
some tork to get it going--it may not turn as fast as my single high speed blades
but thats where the gears come in to play.....

Looks good hiker!
I like the simplistic blades. I have been thinking about making a set of blades for my pm motors but was overwhelmed with the technical aspect of airfoil design. This looks like something I can handle. Care to share the dimensions?

Thanks
Bonz

If your blades only get a quarter the efficiency of an optimized design, just make the rotor twice the diameter and use stronger guy wires.  B-)  Airfoil curves are good, but hardly necessary.

not a whole lot to it--three 3/4" plywood disks glued togeather --two fence boards
cut in half--cut 4 angled slots in the disk--slide your boards in and hold them in place with glue and screws-- i used a belt sander on mine to feather out the ends of
the blades and to round off the leading edge--then just throw on some stain or paint.

I guess the only thing that isn't self evident is the pitch. I saw on your first post that you might have to change it. Looks to be a 45 cut, would you go more or less?

A tyro sez thanks
Bonz
