cow proofing my wiring

cows ate my wires off of my wind genny last night.(not impressed)they got into where my tower is and chewed my wiring off. anyone got any ideas on how to prevent the wire chewing. I know the best solution is keep them out but when they get in it can't be helped.
I thought at least you guys might get a laugh from my misfortune !!!
Regards,
Mos

Conduit?

windrules;

Yeah either  conduit, armored cable, shooting them or keeping them out. For livestock I would use metal conduit rather than plastic.

I was worried (but it never happened) about moose scratching themselves on my guy wires, or simply walking over them this spring...  They were going right around the tower and wires several times.  Never thought about them eating the line....

Mos a sheet of reo mesh cut in half both ways 4 Kopper posts one for each corner ie box it in then keep the grass sprayed within bare dirt don't attract moos. It also helps if you put a piece of 4x2 around the top this helps support the reo if they do lean over.

Tie barbed wire to it.  Cheaper than conduit and maybe easier to install.  I would condider putting the barbed wire at a 12V potential with a 470 ohm limiting resistor (other battery potential grounded). This would give them a little taste of brimstone if they missed a barb.  It is a major problem at dairy farms when the water trough is at a slightly different potential than ground.  The cows won't drink.

Could be they were just wanting a little salt residue left over from not wearing gloves. A salt block, in addition to conduit could work. But when working around your mill, don't let em see you. In their drunkin stupor, they will try to improve anything you will do! My only experience has been with steers tho.... Gary D.

For grazing country. the following might be available from a wire or fence dealer, or orderable (they make it in S. Africa, I was told):

For serious cow protection around the guy anchors and tower of meteorological towers (which were 45 ft TV antenna masts with 1 anemometer and data logger on tower near base)--I've used a special type of barbed wire called "concertina".    It comes in a roll and telescopes out like a slinky.  It can be cut into segments and curled around guy points and towers to keep animals from scratching on anything and toppling tower or damaging something. Use short malleable wire to tie a segment of it together into a circle around the item needing protection.   Undo the tie wire and pull the segment away temporarily for raising and lowering or other access.

Don't confuse this with "razor ribbon"--a similar type of wire used around prisons--which will literally cut you to bits.  The wire here is merely barbed, but is still nasty to work with--use thick gloves.

If no concertina available,   solid posts can be sunk and regular barbed wire strung--but this is not as flexible for access or raising and lowering.

Probably one can jury-rig concertina which will act as a deterrent using barbed wire made into a slinky arrangement as above, with a connector embossing tool to connect 4 or so separate barbed-wire strands together like a slinky.  But that will not be as good as the more rigid large-gauge concertina which easily maintains its shape, which most barbed-wire will not do.
