mozilla {web browser}

seems to work better than--internet explorer 5.5......

entered --free web browsers--on google search...downloaded mozilla firefox..
its a small web browser--only a little over 4 mbs--they have a larger web browser
with more features--over 11 mbs to download..
seems to do the trick when some one posts a large picture--it cuts it right down to size.. and loads a lot faster than ie 5.5 web browser..that alone makes it worthwhile
to download and check out--plus it has a few more tricks than ie 5.5...

works great on my pc--win98se.--450mhz--250ram--56k modem...

thought i might try it out sence a few of the guys mentioned it here.....
 check it out.........................

I use Mozilla.
Even when I still ran Windows I used Mozilla - its much safer and give you more control I think.  The email software that comes with it is much safer with regard to viruses as well.
Its good stuff.

Mozilla All the Way!!

I use the original Mozilla Webrowser (not the small Firefox one), and as hiker said, it shrinks huge images down to size (although IE 6 does that aswell). You can also search right from the address bar, without having to go to a search page. It's also more secure than IE. Then don't forget 'tabbed browsing', very usefull on a site like this where you go to the start page and see 5 different posts you want to read. Let the next one load while you are reading the 1st one, so that by the time you are ready for the next one, it is already loaded. That's a little trick I learned when I still had dial-up.

All in all a great browser. Couple bugs but they keep working to fix them (a lot faster than Microsoft anyway). Check it out.

Cheers,
Stephen.

I,ve been using Mozillia for a couple of years I think. Originally firebird now firefox. I'm not that savy with computers but I decided to seek out a better browser out of sheer frustration with IE 5. I run an old computer (166mhz overclocked to 200mhz 64mb of ram a 2.9 gig HD and a 56k dialup) program size is important and compassion for older machines is a plus as well. For what I want it for Mozilla is the hands down winner over IE. As a matter of fact I can't think of one single reason to use IE except to mabe save space as I can't seem to get IE off my system. I sure could use that extra space.

Have you tried going into Control Panel/add and remove programs? Have a look at the list of programs which windows says it can automatically remove. If IE is on the list you should be able to uninstall it.

I also use Mozilla now but retain IE for certain sites which do not seem to work properly with Mozilla, probably because I am a plugin or something missing.

Windows insists IE is a required component. I quess I could track down all the components and remove manually but in the past I've made mistakes doing this.

If you want to remove IE, here's how:
http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html

It will completely remove IE and all components that aren't required for proper operation of the system. It works. Backup all favorites before running this.

Mozilla all the way!
Much better than IE, which I still get popups on whenever I open it. I will be sticking with Mozilla for a LONG time I think.

Maybe back up everything before removing IE completely :)

I think alot of windows stuff uses EI files in various areas even when you disable it as a web browser. Like that stupid "VIEW AS WEB PAGE" garbage that eat's half a screen for nothing.

Various versions of windows may have various requirements for it.

nothing to lose

Spelin and tpying are my strong points, not electronics.

I went ahead and use the program from the above link. Freed up over 30mb of space with no problems yet. It seems the shared components are retained.

I cant figure out how to get into the IRC(as long as it still works) with Firefox. I thought it had the program built into it?

Nope.  The full version of Mozilla includes (a) email/newsgroups (b) composer (html editor) and IRC client.  Firefox is a browser only.

I love it.

The best way that I know of to remove IE is to goto start-->setting-->control panel-->add remove programs-->> add/remove windows components...UNcheck the box that says Internet Explorer... to fix the picture problem wild you can go into folder options from the control panel selected the extension that your pictures use and change the program used to open them. If you do not know what extension they use right click on a picture and chose properties that will tell you whether its a JPEG, GIF,TIF ext..

Also, note that you can view the full-sized versions of images posted on this site by right-clicking the image in Firefox/Firebird and selecting "View Image".  Not sure what it is for Macs, but it might be a click-and-hold, or the right click should work on Macs with multibutton mice.

I just purchased a used computer for $250 and a 17 in. monitor from Goodwill for $10.  This computer was loaded with Windows ME and some other useless stuff.  I reparticianed the 40 gb drive giving WIN-ME 10 gb with the balance reserved for LINUX Fedora core 1 operating system.  This is now a dual boot system.  My plans are to eliminate Bill Gates ASAP and run everything under LINUX witch also uses Mozilla.  LINUX is the way to go and Bill Gates is doing his damdest to throw as many roadblocks at it that he can.  The LINUX system is free but you have to pay for any media.  Check this out at www.linux.org.  The reason why I'm using a setarate computer at this time as I don't want any possible mistake to mess up my other computers.  These run on Win-98se and Win-xp, the latter is a real dog.  As soon as all my LINUX stuff is up and running, all WINDOWS stuff will be history!
