Wanting to build a bigger turbine

I'll have 40 pieces of 1.5" x 3" x 3/4" neo magnets just like what Dan B used for making his 3 KW turbine

I have just bought 40 pieces of 1.5" x 3" x 3/4" neo magnets just like what Dan B used for making his 3 KW turbine.  I live in a low wind area and am thinking of making a turbine similar to what Dan B. made.

Dan B., if you were to build a new one, what would you change to make it better?  Since I'll have 40 pieces of magnets, should I use them all and make a 20 poles machine?  I don't mind making the blade a liitle bigger than yours.  Do you think a 6 meters blade be okay?

sounds exciting.  Ive been thinking of a project like that myself, I was thinking 20 magnets/rotor on 21" rotors would be fun.  I expect it could match a 20' blade.

Thanks Dan for your reply.  I am thinking about the same.  What cut-in RPM do you think will be good for this 6 meters blade?

Do you think I can expect to get around 400 to 500 watts in 3 to 4 m/s wind?

The swept area of a 6 meter diameter is 28.3 meters^2 with a wind speed of  4 m/s the total energy in the wind is just over 1100 watts with 59.3% of that being the theoretical maximum that can be extracted (betz). If you do a good job on blade construction I would expect ~300 watts in 4 m/s.

Where did you buy your 1.5" x 3" x 3/4" neo magnets from?? I didn't see them in the
store here??

I ordered them from a Chinese company in China.  The price I got was reasonable.  Let me know if you want to buy.

The company name is China Rare Earth Magnet Co.  I will be getting the magnets early next week.  Perhaps I should look at them first before I recommend them to you.

Anyway if you can't wait, their website is at www.permanentmagnet.com.

I will wait until I hear back from you on the quality of these magnets.
Please let us know what you think of them.

I received the magnets last Friday.  The overall quality is very good.  They come in 2 boxes with a lot of foams inside for protection.  I am satisfied.
