| I was going to do a search, but wasn't sure of the terminology to use, so here goes.....
Has anyone tried putting the blade assembly on the downind side of the generator? For two reasons I think this would be a benefit..
- The need for a tail would be negated as the blades would create the force necessary to point it in the right direction
- The need for a furling system could be incorporated into the blade mounts themselves by using springs. As the wind pressure got high enough to the point where you'd want furling the springs would allow the blades to bend away from the generator effectively taking most of thier "energy extraction" area out of the direct force of the wind. Of course, this would only work on a downwind system as blades bending back on one that was mounted upwind would strike the tower (VERY bad thing).
Is this an idea that's been tried and failed, or is this something that was proven to be a bad idea long before it could be implimented?
Just wondering.
