delco remy altenator hookup

I have a delco remy altenator that I want to use as a genorator but I dont know how to hook it up. it has 3 wires with a plug 1 is black 1 is red and 1 is red with a black line. on the back of the houseing thre is i bolt "batt" connector and 3 copper v connectors that I can feel a little bit of current comeing out of.

I would like to have just 2 wires comeing out for batt chargeing. thx

You really only need two basic connections. The positive side of the battery connects to the insulated bolt labeled "batt", and the negative side of the battery connects to the case (ground) of the alternator. Use wire for these connections that is heavy enough to carry the amperage of the alternator output, depending upon which GM alternator it is (65 amp, 85 amp, 100 amp).

One of the wire connections in the plug is the sensing circuit which originally connected to the idiot light on the dash. The other wire connection in the plug is the field wire that energizes the alternator. You can either connect this to the positive terminal on the battery with an inline switch, or rely on self-energization by installing a jumper.
