Hard to turn

Hello   The other day we had winds about 15-25 mph what a day.I got five gennys on line and was getting a max of 161 open vdc,but only 13.5 vdc into a batt bank @ 5 amps max.I had a bright idea ....wire the double rotor in delta and get more amps. Now you have to get up on it with all 4 feet to turn it.Is that normal for it to be harder to turn? Is there a way to make it turn eaiser and still put out some amps? My thinking gets turned upside down and backwards. Thank you for your help.

It's normal to be a LITTLE BIT harder to turn - because it doesn't produce perfect sine waves, so certain harmonics are shorted out.

If it's a LOT harder to turn one of these is likely:  It's wired incorrectly (probably one phase has its ends swapped), there's a big error in turns count on one coil, or pole-shape layout that makes the generated waveform massively wrong for using a delta connection.

Check for a wiring error first.  Open one of the conntections of the delta, spin it at a constant speed, and measure voltages:
 - Any series pair of windings should show the same voltage as a single winding. If it shows something a bit under twice the voltage of a single winding, reverse the ends of one coil.
 - The voltage across the break in a broken-open delta should be much lower than the voltage across any single winding (though it won't be quite zero).

You have shorted the windings, by changing to Delta or Star the energy needed would be the same.
