grind noise

I just bought a 38vdc ametek motor. when I got it I turned it and it makes a grinding noise. if I turn it the left way it's worse but if I switch directions the motor also clicks. as I turn the shaft right It makes good power but it grinds and as I turn left it grinds more with less power.
is this normal? I dont think it's the bearings since the "diffrent direction" turn feels smooth. please reply thx

I have taken a number of broken motors apart at work and it sounds like you might have a brush problem or something loose in it. If it is new take it back fast if not be careful taking it apart if it is a pm motor it is probably a piece of metal.
Energy comes from many Sources the trick is knowing how to tap into it.

It sounds to me like you have some metal shavings or magnet pieces rubbing between  the rotor and the magnets.  Mark the location of the motor endcaps in relation to the main body and carefully take it apart.  I use tape to remove the stray pieces. Like removing lint and dog hair from your clothes.  The brushes may be a challange to get back in place.  I use a piece of fishing line to hold them in place until the communtator is in and then I pull the fishing line out.  I hope this helps.

Can't the brushes on those be removed before the motor is disassembled?
Through fat plastic (or metal) screws on each side?

I had the same experience. I took mine apart and discovered that the cement used to attach the magnet to the case had come loose. It was in direct contact with the wire rotor. I used some PL construction adhesive to attach it to the case wall. Put it back together and the grinding was gone.
