Composting toilet installation

From box to basement

I spent the last few days installing my Sun-Mar 3000 composting toilet. The unit is now installed and finished to floor level. There is still snow on the roof, so the final installation will have to wait a week or so.

Initial observations:

  1. The body of the composter is of very high quality fiberglass construction and the instructions quite clear.
  2. There were several parts missing. Sun-Mar had them to me in less than a week. Some screws, etc I had in my shop.
  3. While the body of the composter being fiberglass is a good thing, the doo-doo chute and adapter are also fiberglass. The moulded pieces did not match up exactly and the pre-drilled holes did not match up at all. I needed C clamps to hold the pieces in alignment while I re-drilled the new holes. The toilet, chute, adapter, and composter fit together very loosely, soooo LOTS of silicone, a lot more than Sun Mar gives you for the project.
  4. The venting system is central vac tubing, so went together in a snap. This unit must be vented separately through the roof in order to eliminate odor.
Update with pictures after unit is up and running.

Don't know if this helps, but I changed the fan in one to a muffin fan.
Kind of a sloppy fit.
Still works fine, uses a lot less battery.
No idea what brand toilet it was. It was using 4" white plastic dryer vent.
