24 volt DC, 100 amp generators

Military Surplus, Gasoline Engine

We have some (I think something like 15 or more) 24 volt DC (rated -- I think they actually put out 28 volts, at 100 amps, so as to charge a 24 volt battery bank) surplus military generators.

They have a pull start gasoline engine.  I am thinking these might be useful for folks around here to charge their battery banks, or if they were taken apart, other renewable energy sources could turn the generators.

We got them at auction a few years back.  Brought one up to our shop in Dallas to test it, and it ran fine.  The Army used to have these as a standard motor pool items to charge batteries and provide starting power for the old duece-and-a-halfs (2 1/2 ton truck).

If there is any interest, let me know, we are getting ready to (start) cleaning out a huge warehouse of stuff down by Waco (Texas).  Mostly military stuff.  I will post details of other things that might be useful to this community as I find them.  If I cannot find homes for the stuff, we will try to auction, and then scrap the stuff.

What is the best way to let everyone see what we have?  I was thinking I should take digital photos and put them on a personal website, with details?  Is that a good way?

If you need any help with a page and hosting setup, let me know. I've still got 50Mb of storage and unlimited bandwidth.

I can do some basic HTML as well to set it up as a single website.

Hi Phil - you can certainly upload pictures here to this server - its not difficult.  Try to keep them small (< 50K if possible) - put up some details and prices etc...

I love looking through other folks 'treasure'!

What are you wanting for these? And are these the ones in the 2 piece containers? Thanks David Chapman.

I am interested in one of your 24 VDC generators. I have a 24 volt military vehicle and it would be kinda neat to have. Send me a digital photo and an idea of how much you want for one (also estimate the size and weight for me). I'll give you New York state address so that we can work out the shipping if it works out.

Kindest Regards

John H.

I too would be interested in one of these.  Not so much the engine, so if you have one that the ICE is no good on it, it would be perfect for me....

I might be interested in alot of stuff depending what all you have and if it's cheap enough. Sounds like your just wanting it gone mostly.

"If I cannot find homes for the stuff, we will try to auction, and then scrap the stuff."

I spend about half my life at the scrap yards buying stuff from them I think, I never take them anyting :O

Perhaps I should buy direct and cut out the middleman.

On these 24V gennies what kinda price you thinking. I could take either running working or without an engine like someone else also said.
24Vdc, 100amps. Thats about 2400watts, what size motor do they have for driving that. And I am geussing it would be a horizontal shaft engine right.
.
nothing to lose

Spelin and tpying are my strong points, not electronics.

I too would be interested in pricing, weight, and your location (to figure out shipping costs).

Phil,

I would be interested in one of your 24 volt generators.  Please let me know if you have one in good running condition.  Thanks!
