A look at art, windvanes & garden sculpture

Square tails are overused.. Become artistic in your tail and generator designs!

I was in a conversation with someone the other day (picm)that asked if other designs for tails and such could be incorporated. I stated that if the dimensions stayed the same but the geometry changed then yes, there is no reason why a wind generator couldn't be artistic as well. For those that are looking for an alternative, and Dan and others have posted in the past regarding the tails in the images of dog's, eagles, sun's, pigs' etc... here is some inspirational shots I pulled to give you ideas of what is possible. Enjoy!

I was thinking of doing an airplane, so the blades could be the prop. Very fun for the creative mind.

Very Nice,
I had alot of fun with this airplane design from mags on the bicycle wheel to belt driven small dc. The blade on this comes with a story. It was carved by Bill Brown when he was a young man. He was responsible for the retrofit of suspension bridges world-wide to an airfoil shape...spent thousands of hours in wind tunnels. I acquired it from his daughter Betsy Bose in the 90's. It had been sitting in a barn for many years. The shape of the blade is like a pair of Maple Tree keys...it's a real good spinner. My daughter helped do the plane.
Ciao
Tom

I often think about a 1foot and a half parameter, bluecrab outline for a tail to one of these, fine dual magnet rotor machine's. actually many different types of fisk or sharks could be envisaged. in my area this would be popular. Barring the artistic element, a weight for the tail to obtain, optimum furling eguagement should be specified. DanB, any idea on an opimum weight for a given furling angle of the pivot post, that you are currently using? And should the tail with a fixed weight be at a specific distance from the pivot point for a given furling action?
