DanB. How are the wind turbines doing today?

 Windy Day in Colorado

Dan, we are getting 25-35 mph winds here in Westminster today along with a foot of snow.
Just wondering how your wind turbines are doing up there on the hill. You are in a windier area than I am. Hope you are staying warm and enjoying a nice tall one.
Lots of electricity in the wind today. Wish I could collect some here, but you know how the city fathers are.

Hi Jimjnn -
good.  Actually, I got in a bit of a tour yesterday and got to watch meters at Matts (the 15' one with the border collie on the tail), Daves (at the caboose), Scotts (my truck broke down in front of his place on my way home), Adams (which we just upgraded), and DanF's.  And mine!!
and they were all fine.  DanF's is not optimal - probably a more powerful, maybe some wooden blades. Those blades are real flexible, Im not sure they are not sort of self furling.  His does real well in lower winds, but has trouble getting over about 300 watts and we've never seen it furl up yet.  So I expect its a combination of blade issues and alternator issues.  Could be the blades would behave better if the alternator held their speed down a bit more.  As it is though - it's doing real well in low winds and the lack of performance in higher winds isnt costing him too much.
