| Solar control Problem
I have 1kw of solar hooked to a xantrex 35amp trace controller charging batteries which then goes to an inverter. The problem is that once the charge controller is finished charging the batteries it just sits their and does nothing else. I would like to have that non charging power/current diverted to my hot water heater or some other load. The problem is that the xantrex controller can only do one function, charge or divert depending on wiring , so how can I divert if it's charging?
If it is charging then the wiring is good for only one thing, charging, which I assume means drain load from battery so the charger can keep up and maintain charging the batts. which is kinda silly when you think about it.. if your load is large and the sun goes down, your batts don't get fully charged while draining them. this is just to silly to think about.
If you wire it for diversion mode, then that's all it will do, and won't charge the batts.
This has to be the stupidest thing yet or I am missing something?
Of coarse I have to ask the silly question of why the manufacture didn't just put a simple relay or scr/triac circuit in place and an extra lug for connection for a diversion load, so that when it's done charging then it could simply divert the load, but nope, so such beast exists in any small charge controllers to date that I have seen, so why are they doing this and what am I missing???
Can I put a relay/scr/triac in circuit with the charge controller to do this? has it been done? The manual states that I cannot remove the charge without removing the load first.
Dazed and confused...
Thank you in advance for your replies and suggestions.
