Yaw Excitement

Rah Yaw Rah

Had to post this because sometimes things just work perfect. While sitting in the auto, fiddling with the power seat controls.
Ding! That's It! I'm Yawing! This is what my idea is.

I dug around in my warehouse of goodies and found an old power seat mechanism, and a five inch gear from an old motor bike.

First the gear pitch was perfect! Second the size of the gear was exact. Third, the speed was right on the money. Forth, fifteen watts under load at 12 volts. And finally I can live with the price. Rah, Rah!

Because the drive is offset my alternator power cable can pass through the center of the gear easily. Another exciting fact is that servo will be self locking.

There was several other drive units on the seat mover that would work very well for blade pitch movers.

This is one of the rack and slide pieces. I am going to check my local auto pic yah parts next week.

It is super when an idea doesn't just fade from the brain but pops out this good. Just had to share. Go team Go! Enjoy.

Joseph.

Great stuff Joe! You've got one of the better junk boxes I've seen.

I think you may need a bit more gearing for yaw control. I think an output speed of 0.5-1.0 rpm is about right. You want to keep acceleration and deceleration low.

Keep on keeping on.

SamoaPower, the speed is right in that range you have suggested. A double worm. I am going to test the reduction later today and post some more on it later.

Joseph.
