Furling Question

Hi All!   I'm about ready to start welding up my yaw bearing for my 10' dual rotor and was advised by Flux that I should furl by 600 watts to save my stater from over heating.  This will mean that I will have to probably furl in 18 to 20 MPH winds and could use some advice on what would be my best option.
   A. increase offset of prop (from the normal 4 to 4 1/2" to 5 to 5 1/2" ??)
   B. decrease angle of furl bearing from 20 degrees to 15 degrees ??
   C. decrease length of tail.

Or should I use a combination of any of the above?
I do not think I have the option of decreasing the weight enough.
Thanks for any thoughts before I start welding up.

I wouldn't shorten the tail, that will make it twitch about especially in turbulent wind.

The other options are valid. Reducing the furl bearing angle will work, but with pipe on pipe I wouldn't go too small as the effect of friction makes it more reluctant to come back into the wind. 15 degrees should be ok.

Increasing offset is again valid but if you make it too great you will need a bigger tail to keep it into the wind and that will mean adding more weight.

For 10 ft I would use at least 5". You may need to set the tail at a greater angle in the direction opposite furling in normal operation to keep it properly into the wind. Probably at least 20 deg, it does look odd and makes people ask questions but it has no other harmful effects.

Thanks Flux for the quick reply.  I never thought of off-setting the tail by this much to hold it into the wind.  Thanks once again.
