Dumpster Diving & Windmills - does it GET any better than this? ;-)

A nice combination of 2 of my interests:  windmills and dumpster diving:

Apparently that's a chunk of DC-9 fuselage going into the dumpster. ;-)

Here's the main site.  It's an interesting process:

(Somebody posted this on alt.dumpster, I'm just widening the audience a little)

Too bad that "dumpster diving" is forebidden in Belgium (where I live)

(*If annyone on these forums is form Belgium and knows a good place to "dumpster dive", please tell me  :-) )

But, like any good Belgian, you won't let the law stop you, I hope?

Over here (The Netherlands) dumpster diving is also not legal. <chuckles>

Once managed to get my hands on an old NF-5 jetfighter that was to serve for fire practice. Still have a box full of Clixxon circuitbreakers and some other goodies. Too bad I didn't have a tow-bar on my bike, or I would have taken the entire A/C home...

It always depresses me to see an aircraft "retired" in this way, but that's the way things go sometimes.

In this pic -- http://www.mojaveweblog.com/photos/060219/mhv-aerial-boneyard-050918-14-8.jpg -- there are a couple of classic C-133's in the background.  I hope somebody claims and restores those, as there aren't that many around anymore...

They look remarkably like a "stretched Hercules", don't you think?  Obviously they were made by different companies, but do you think that the same designers were involved?

From what I've been told, the 133 was designed to haul atlas missiles around, and was pressed into other "trash hauling" duties during Vietnam..  Lost 25% of the fleet to "unknown" causes flying over the pacific, until 1 crew survived to report that a wiring malfunction feathered the props midflight.

My dad flew mainly 130s in 'nam, but was scared of the 133s for this reason.  Not too many of the 133s left -- last I heard, there are only 4 of them remaining (of 50)in flyable or recoverable condition.  Compare that to the 130s, which are still being built.

Oooh, that'd ruin your day pretty quick!

Well, I can see that the smaller C130 would have a bit more versatility.  I mean, you wouldn't need as much runway and such like to run them.

We had a similar thing happen here in Australia a few years ago, with vans.  Ford were selling a rebadged Mazda E2000 van as the "Econovan":

Then a few years ago they discontinued it in favour of the bigger Euro-style "Transit" van:

But now - the Econovan is back.  I'm guessing it was because they kept getting requests for something a bit smaller.

Hey, maybe I'm drawing a long bow to make that comparison, but I just like to see my own words in print! ;-)
