Converting Demag motors

They have intregral brakes

I just picked up two Demag 1.55 HP (1KW), 6 pole, 3phase, 230/460 V motors. Both look to be in very good condition. They have integral conical brake that engages when the motor is turned off. I opened one but see no way to convert it to 460 V ( only 3 leads to the terminal box). I presume that I can remove the spring that engages the break and fix the armature in one position with a shim on the shaft.
These are REAL nice motors and I look fwd to converting them. Any comments from any one with experience and/or insights are very welcome.
I'll try to post some picture of them this week end.

Well I cracked the case on one of the motors

Here is one fully assembled

Here is one with one end bell off and the cover off the break assembly on the right end,
note the conical break pads and corresponding surface on the inside of the cover.
Also note the spring on the shaft. This keeps the break engaged till the motor enenergized.

Here is a close up of the break pads and cover. the band of rust was shinny a few days ago.

DISASTER! Your eyes are NOT playing tricks on you. The armature is "conical" with a conical stator.
Oh well perhaps I can trade them for other motors I can use.

I'm no expert on this, but I'd try slapping a few mags on that armature with little to no skew and see what happens.  I bet you'd come out slightly better than expected.

I did reduce them, how do I meet the 100 K requirement?

switch to 256 colors instead of the 16k colors you have now.

Your pictures are currently 1280 x 960 pixels. Resize them to 640 x 480 and set the jpeg quality to 75% when you save them. My pictures when done this way are typically about 40Kb.

I believe the stator shape is designed (cone shape)to pull the rotor in as soon as its getting energized. This will then release the brake pad from its housing. The spring should naturally press the stator out when the magnetic field falls off and the brake hits the pad. I believe you will have to find a way to keep the rotor in. Not sure if rotor magnets would do it alone. It (rotor) is probably loose when you remove the spring. The Demag is also most likely wound with a two speed winding. Could be two separate windings, could be "Dahlander" connected. It can surely be converted, but is probably not your easiest motor to work with...
