Building Generators - Principles

I put one of my old web pages back up for those interested in learning the basic principals of magnetics and generators. I also included some pics of my old experimental cores. Enjoy!

iFred, looked the site over. Yes, lots of good pictures and very basic. This information would help anyone looking for ideas and methods. Thanks for the link. Joe.

i cant make out what it is describing , and it is sure to give someone new , the wrong idea.

besides that it is a nice site.

Willib;

 is sure to give someone new , the wrong idea.

Pop over into IRC and I will let you in on a little secret thats not for public consumption.

Cheers.

I get it, and I must agree, that will de-cog anything.  Have you looked at any other prime numbers?  Some applications don't require rectifiers, some people can get diodes cheaper by the dozen, so you could have as many phases as you want.

"little secret"?  did I spill the beans?

Steve;

Nah, just an inside thing amongst some of us on IRC. No beans spilt.

Is the left image balance? And how far off the center of the line is the one at about 5:00?

 Looks like the diagrams are mis-labeled the coil layout should be the magnet layout and visa versa.   You can't have 5 magnets...

You CAN have five magnets and don't need to have the polarity of every other one reversed. You will just get a different type of current - basically half the AC voltage RMS. Looks different on oscilloscope - same power.

Looks like the diagrams are mis-labeled
the coil layout should be the magnet layout
and visa versa.
You can't have 5 magnets...

I think also that they are mixed.

In principle it isn't difficult
to make the generator such a way
that the output is quite smooth.
You'll just need many phases.

The coil width should be
about the same as the distance
between the magnets.

LOL.. at least it gets you thinkin...there are always possibility's.
oh and by the way it did work in the small version (7 inch) as shown in the pic, the scope showed an offset waveform somewhat strange, but it does work.

Dude !

I still wanna know how to lay out the five point arrangement so it's even. I KNOW you have a simple way.
