Where can I find these bolts?

Anybody know?

I've been to my regular hardware store sources looking for some 7/16 diameter bolts X 3 in.long with 20 threads per inch. I want them threaded the whole length of the bolt. These are for adjusting the distance between my two rotors. I can find them with just part of their lengths threaded, but not all of it. Does anyone have any ideas of where to find something like this? --tom

Hi Tom, kinda think that is a hard order to fill, I guess you could cut the threads the rest of the way yourself, if you had a thread die, or take them to a mechine shop and have them do it. Most here on this site, use allthread. if for some reason you want a head on the end of the bolt, I guess you could always weld a nut on one end of the allthread??

Great fun, harrie

Or do a "jam nut" by tightening two nuts against each other, perhaps with a fender washer between 'em to keep the wrench from slipping onto the other nut.

Tighten with the outer nut, loosen with an open-end wrench on the inner one.

How about a carriage bolt?  They're usually threaded all the way up but they've got that rounded square plug head on them.

My father worked there (when he was alive).

If they haven't got them, they aren't made.  Plain and simple.

Another suggestion....

Bolt Supply House - Western Canada

To find a similar store in NH (I assume you're in New Hampshire), you could try stores that sell special tools and fasteners.

As a last resort, try an aircraft overhaul shop.  They throw out bolts all the time, and all aircraft bolts are UNF.

Does it HAVE to be 7/16"-20 UNF?

Thanks, all for your many ideas. I ended up taking Harie's suggestion. For the price of one McMasters bolt I purchased a 7/16-20 die at my local Napa dealer and in 15 minutes I threaded all six of the bolts I needed. Good deal. Now I can precisely adjust the air gap between my magnets. --tom
