new toy

thanks to an alert from rogerAS, i now own a 1992 model lisrter-petter diesel with a metered total of 660 hrs. run time on it. the army paid $4,441.o1 and sold it to me for $210.00, mounted on a trailor with a 20gsl. fuel tank. the unit was used as a field shelter ground heater with thernostat control and electric start. the heat exchanger has been removed to make it inoperable as a heater but all other parts are in place. i intend to drive a 240 amp amblance alternator with it as a backup for my battery system but, i have several projects i am playing with and who knows where it will finish up. i can rebuild small gas engines and have not worked on a diesel before, so i will be needing help if i get in trouble on this one. if anyone has a sorce of headgaskets and other parts for this motor, i would like to have the contact info. thanks. pepa

With 660 hours You do not need re-building, just clean it and run it

Pepa,

You're more than welcome. I agree with Nando that this engine should not need rebuilding anytime soon. I understand your wanting a source for parts. Even good engines will need some help from time to time. I will see what I can find and get back to you.

Is there a model # on the engine and serial # too will help.

Keep an eye on the run time for oil changes and you should be good to go for over 5,000 hours, maybe more, before an overhaul is needed. I have a cheapo hour meter on mine to watch that closely. My Kubota wants new oil (non synthetic) ever 100 hours. I'm not too sure about this engine.

Enjoy and keep us updated as to how it works for you. BTW I gave $250 for my Kubota, and I had to change heads, flywheel, fuel delivery system and a few other bits. The Kubota is also millitary surplus. So far mine is better than I could have hoped.

Take some pictures of the engine when you get a chance. I really wish I had been close enough to get one of these as they had several if I remember right.

Peppa,

Opps, missed the meter already onboard. Cool!

Try these guys in PA, although I suppose just 'cause it was in PA doesn't mean you are.

Hoover Diesel Service
Tel. No:
Fax: 717-656-3322
717-656-4022

they are listed on Lister-Petter web site which is,

http://www.lister-petter.com

they have a search function so you might find out anything you want.

Is it this engine?

Yep, swiped the photo from ebay. Will remove when thread dies or sooner???

Hello pepa;
let me know what the Mil=spec numbers are on it and I'll see if I can get you the entire FSM ( field service manual) for it.
Our youngest is in H.E.M. repair and has access to even the old manuals I used to use.

BTW: If this unit doesn't have a water glass for the fuel inlet on it, get one.
Also most of the time these units sat out in the worst weather.
I am sure you already checked but take a look at the oil and filters. The 63C10's were bad about not changing them and letting water sludge build up.

Great find!!
