kind of darius?

a fun vawt-rotor

After my failure to hammer a alusheet in a Torkmastershape:

I didn't want to give up.
To succeed I had to modifie the shape thouroughly and hammer it
out of hand,no mould.

The shape became more darius-like.Fancy wingtips did the rest.

Performance I don't know.It spins nice at 20km wind.Maybe going to
test it some day.It looks like a darius but I'm afraid it hasn't the
speed of a darius nor the tork of a savonius.

Sorry guys, just having some fun,I think it would be a pity not to show it.
My old dad was willing to hold it up for a moment. It looks like a strange
weapon too.

cheers,
stonebrain

your pics are a bit oversized. i will leave them this time as they are only 175k each or so but in the future get them down to under 100k please.

Looks great I like sleek design. Some things turn into art instead of power generators. How is the middle done so that it is strong enough to handle the forces? If you get a chance to test it would love to know how it does on power performance.

Stonebrain;
Art form meets functionality. Who says we can't have power and look nice while doing it?

Does look like something that would be on a Kilngon battle crusier huh :->
While your dad was holding it; up how well in the wind did it turn? self starting?

Find a DC motor and see how well it'll do just for some more fun.

Thanks for the comments,guys

At 10-15 km/h it was spinning quitly,I guess starting at about 10 km/h
The other time wind above 20 km/h my dad got a bit nervous from the spinning
rotor. He didn't know how to stop it,I was lucky he didn't throw it on the
ground.

It was about a small day of hammering for each half.More ffun than that
polyesterstuff.
The center is just the two overlapping sheets fixed on a rod.Should be ok
for normal tork forces.Don't know how it will stand centrifugal forces
and vibrations at high speed,if ever it can speed up much.I would
regret if it flied to pieces on my testtower.Well, maybe that's part of the
fun.

If I manage to test the torkmaster, this one will be going up for testing next.
I have some things going on and too many projects in my head. And I'm slow
so be patient.

cheers,
stonebrain

Boy alot of hammerin goin on looks cool Stonebrain.

I often thought about narrowing the chord on the blade from center to tip or even a slight vshape to the wing itself. That must have been hard to hold up why did you make dear old dad do it?

 Good job:>}

Dang, you're a talented man with a hammer!  I suspect you could hammer a DC-3 out of a roll of sheet stock.

Looks kind of neat.  Yeah, you are lucky because looking at those points on the bottom, I would have thrown it if it got to scary fast myself.  A small genny and a light and you could pass it off as modern art making a statement on wind power.  Rich

A hammer? A brute tool to create a sleek object. The big pictures help in scrutinizing the details. Kudos to your dad for the support! I wish I had that kind of support here at home. It looks sturdy enough though. Any changes you might make in the future?
