If he would have been in Ireland, I would have walk all the way from Romania to pick them up. They are so expensive here.

I passed on a room full of VRLA batteries recently. They are not deep cycle and unsuited for RE use. The life of those batteries is an average of five years according to the manufacturer and if you try and use them as a deep cycle battery you will find the cycles available to you before they die is very low in comparison to a real deep cycle battery.

Those batteries are designed for standby use and I see them in cell phone and remote repeater sites all the time. They have the benefit to the telecoms people of having no maintenence. Getting them for free is ok, but it is buyer beware if someone wants to use VRLA's as a substitute for a deep cycle battery.

Muiller, I can get plenty 12v UPS batteries if you want them in the country. You take the chance on them working or otherwise, and it will only cost you labour for the trucking Co to pack and ship. They are not deep cycle either.

I have the name of a guy near Belfast, He deals in Batteries and takes in used ones. I am trying to get some old fork lift batteries from him at the moment which will be cheap (although probably not that good). If you are interested contact me. I also have a contact in a computer company which every so often replace their sla UPS batteries for a data center. They are around 90ah each at 12V, but I have been waiting now for several months for some. You might try contacting recycling centers in your area as that is where the computer batteries would normally go. They are all replaced as soon as one shows signs of a fault but most of them have lots of life left.

Good Luck
Alibro

PS 2nd try at raising my new (newly finished that is) turbine this weekend. Last effort resulted in an under rated winch starting to give up. Thankfully it all came down safely.
