Hi TAH, I don't know what you consider cheap but, I think the biggest bang for your buck is on this page: http://www.rc-electronics-usa.com/buy-products.html

I buy one a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with it!! There are two models to choose from and they are made in the USA!!

I found it to be a good product also.  The Doc Wattson model can total more Kwh before rolling over than the other model.

Im in the same camp...  I've used the 'Doc Wattson' meter for a few months now.  I think it's a great little meter at a great price (so far... time will tell)

That looks like it will work. It says it will handle 100 AMPs has anyone gotten close to that?

TAH;

In IRC last night Dan told me his has passed 130 amps [over the rating]. So thats second hand info but probably factual.

Cheers.

I would say to make an amp meter from a Shunt and a VoltMeter

The 'Doc Wattson' meter monitors only the amphours used from the battery, right? Is it possible to monitor the amphours into the battery too? Can we use two of them, one between the generator and the battery to monitor the amphours into the battery and one between the battery and the inverter to monitor the amphours used from the battery and to compare the readings to find out the state of charge? I was thinking this, and yes, you should be able to use two, one for in and one for out.

Instead of using two of them to find the state of charge, the one between the battery and load would be enough, IF it could reset itself when the battery is fully charged (hook the reset button somehow to the diversion part of the controller?).
