Another busy week. This is the front blade hub for the 17' wind turbine we finished last week. We just wanted to make sure everything fit together after we drilled out the blades. First step is to put all the bolts through the blade hub.

Then fit the blades over the front hub.

It all fits together pretty well!

Once all the blades are on there we fit the back hub - then we have to go in with a hole saw and cut the center out of the blades so they fit over the wheel hub in the alternator.

Soon after we got the 17' blades drilled/ready Scotty showed up with a new set of 16' blades!

If you've read my recent posts you remember than I've been banding the wind turbines with stainless steel lately. I have been using strips that have been sheared off of sheets. I got this stuff recently - it 3/4" thick stainless steel band. It's very shiny! I think it'll work even better. When they shear it off sheets it always gets a bit twisted and there's always a bit of a sharp burr. This seems like better stuff and there's less waste if we work off a roll.

A fellow in Washington is building a 24 V 17' machine and asked us to make the stator. Each coil has 30 turns - we wind with 5 strands in hand (its borderline rediculous) of 15 gage wire.

It took a while to strip the insulation off of 120 little wire ends for that stator!

The stator ready to cast! It takes about a full day here to make a large stator like this. We got it in the mold last night right before dark. I've not removed it from the mold yet but hopefully it came out nicely!

George made parts yesterday for 4 10' machines and finished metalwork for one. We got our moneys worth from that grindstone...

I got this nice old radiator in hopes that it's big enough to cool my 'Listeroid' diesel engine. I'll put it in the shop so I can capture some of the heat off it. I'll probably need something outside in the summer time but come winter it'll be nice.

This strange man came by last night...

He brought this strange creature with him!
